How to make an easy and inexpensive fall wreath

Don’t you love the festive display that a wreath brings to your front door? I wish they weren’t so expensive! In this post, you will learn an easy, inexpensive way to make your own wreath for the fall season. And, I’m going to show you what I recently created for the front of my house.

Doing a few seasonal crafts can really spark your creativity. It’s a great way to relax and enjoy the season. And, the more creativity you practice, the more productive you become!

Head to your local craft store. This time of year, there are sales galore. I found a 70% off sale on autumn flowers at my local store. So, I was able to pick up two grapevine wreaths and 6 bunches of flowers for less than $25 – enough to make two wreaths!

Materials to make an inexpensive, easy fall wreath:

• Two neutral flower colors that can highlight and fill the space. I chose a bright white and a wheat-colored flower.
• Two flower bunches of a seasonal color. I found pretty orange flowers that were just beautiful for the fall season.
• One bunch of a contrasting colored flower. For fall, I found a muted, earthy blue. Purple would have been pretty as well.
• Two grapevine wreaths
• If you don’t have at home, you will also need wire cutters and hot glue.

How to make an easy and inexpensive fall wreath

Here’s how to create a seasonal wreath that is easy and inexpensive:

1. Determine how much of the wreath you are going to cover. I decided to leave a third of the wreath without flowers so that the pretty grapevines could show through. This also helps you be more economical with your flowers.

2. With your wire cutters, cut off individual stems of your neutral colored flowers. Weave the stems through the branches of your grapevine. Alternate your colors to provide interest. Make sure you leave a little more than half your flowers for the other wreath and for filling in at the end.

3. Work in your seasonal flower next (the orange flower in this example). Use wire cutters to snip the wire stems that hold your flowers. Tuck your wire stems among the grape vines of the wreath, and be sure to incorporate your seasonal flowers with your neutral flowers.

4. Accentuate the wreath with your flowers of contrasting color (blue, in this example). Don’t put more than 4-5 flowers on your wreath of that color. It provides interest and contrast to the wreath.

5. Blend your flowers. Make sure all of your flowers are tucked into the right spots, and that the flowers are evenly distributed. If you need a bright spot, choose a stem of neutral white flowers to highlight or distinguish an area of the wreath.

6. Use your hot glue to make sure that all the of pieces stick. You don’t need to hot glue every single stem, just the stems that are on the outside that aren’t tucked in as deeply into the grapevine.

If you are making two wreaths, repeat the process with your second grapevine wreath.

There you have it! An easy, inexpensive wreath to hang on your door.
